Students in the School of Architecture
Students in the School of Architecture regularly participate in service-related projects. Projects include providing design assistance and consultation to families following a deadly 2012 tornado that hit Harrisburg and other parts of the region; a dog park in Ava that is disability friendly; a two-story treehouse for the Dayempur Farm near Carbondale; and a 1,500-square-foot hillside amphitheater that overlooks Little Grassy Lake at SIU’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center.

Student’s essay on telemedicine use in pediatrics submitted for national competition - Pete Rosenbery
A paper that examines the future use of telemedicine for children, written by a senior in Southern Illinois University’s Health Care Management Program, will be submitted to a national healthcare essay competition.

Qian Huang and Rolando Gonzalez-Torres
Qian (Jenny) Huang and Rolando Gonzalez-Torres, School of Architecture, have received a $75,000 U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration grant to develop training materials on electrical hazards and controls for employers and workers in the construction industry.

Seung-Hee Lee wins Professorship
Seung-Hee Lee, Fashion Design & Merchandising, is recipient of Judge William Holmes Cook Endowed Professorship. The professorship is named for Cook, a former SIU student who had a long and distinguished legal career.

CARBONDALE — An award-winning Southern Illinois University Carbondale summer camp program just wrapped up its 30th year. The SIU Summer Architecture camps introduce children and teens to the world of architectural design and help their development of three-dimensional spatial skills.

Student to serve on an aviation-safety panel - SIU News
José Ruiz, Aviation Management and Flight, has been invited by The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Transportation Research Board in Washington, D.C., to serve as an aviation-safety related expert panel member for “Managing Risk of Airport Infrastructure and Safety Systems: Data Acquisition and Risk Management Protocols” in June.
